The journey offers a great opportunity to get to know fellow hikers or take a nap. Our adventure begins with a hike through the diverse landscapes of the Dana Biosphere Reserve, which spans four distinct ecozones, offering incredible plant, bird, and wildlife diversity. We will first follow a trail along the mountains, offering panoramic views of Dana Valley, before descending into the al Khashasha Valley. We’ll set up camp at a wilderness campsite on the valley’s outskirts.

Today’s hike takes us past Ras Al-Feid and towards Ghbour Whedat, through some of Jordan’s wildest and most remote corners. We will contour the Sharah Mountains, following small Bedouin shepherd paths with views of rugged, black peaks and steep canyons. Gradual climbs reveal more stunning vistas over the barren desert, and the landscape softens as we approach our wilderness campsite, where we’ll encounter unique mushroom-like rock formations.

After the remote wilderness hike, today we begin to encounter more signs of human habitation. We’ll pass Bedouin camps, sheep pens, and small agricultural plots, gaining insight into the lives of Jordan’s rural population. Along the way, we’ll visit early Nabataean ruins, including wine and olive presses and ancient water systems. Our hike continues through a canyon of soft sandstone rocks, leading us down to Little Petra, also known as Siq al-Barid, believed to be a suburb of Petra. After exploring the site, we’ll head to our bedouin camp near Little Petra, where hot showers await.

On our final trekking day, we enter Petra through a less-traveled route, avoiding the crowds. We’ll hike through the Wadi Ghurab and follow a Nabataean trail that skirts around the last mountain, leading to a hidden plateau with magnificent views of Wadi Siyyagh. Just beyond, the Monastery appears in all its glory. After some time to rest and take in the view, we’ll continue down to the main Petra site, exploring its rock-cut tombs, temples, and the famous Roman-style theater. We’ll end the day at Petra’s Treasury, marveling at its intricate façade before leaving the site through the Siq, a narrow canyon.
