Where can I get Jordanian Dinars?

Money Exchange
The local currency is the Jordanian Dinar (JOD), and it’s got a fixed rate with the US Dollar. Which makes exchanging money super straightforward and usually quite cheap. You can swap cash right at the airport, in Amman, in most big cities, and sometimes even at your hotel.

ATMs in Jordan; fees and limits
Depending on your bank, you are also able to take cash from ATMs. Most banks charge a 5 JOD fee for every withdrawl. Most banks have a withdrawl limit of 250 JOD. To safe cost, take out the maximum amount. Just a heads-up: Wadi Rum Village doesn’t have ATMs or exchange spots. So it’s best to plan ahead!

Cash or Card in Jordan
In general Jordan is still a cash country. Big shops, hotels and restaurants though, usually take Visa or MasterCard. But for smaller places, cozy local restaurants, or tipping your guide, cash is king. So better keep some cash JOD’s on you just in case!

What’s the Deal with Tipping in Jordan?

While tipping isn’t mandatory, it’s definitely a big part of the culture and a great way to show appreciation to the amazing people working hard to make your trip unforgettable.

Here’s a handy guide to help you know who to tip and how much. Don’t stress too much about exact amounts. These are just suggestions to give you an idea!

Tipping Guidelines for your Jordan journey

We generally recommend going with whichever is higher: the per person tip or the total group minimum.

Driver
$3+ per person | Group minimum: $15/day

Hotel Staff
$2+ (Think housekeeping or porters — they really appreciate it!)

Restaurants
$1+ or about 10% of the bill if service isn’t already included

Tour Guide
$5+ per person  | Group minimum: $25/day

Local Guide (for specific visits or hikes)
$3+ per person | Group minimum: $15/day

What happens to my luggage if I join an adventure tour?

On multi-day adventures, including hiking, cycling and horse riding tours, your luggage will be transported for you to your overnight accommodation each night.

Pro tip: Keep a small backpack or day bag with your must-haves: water, sunscreen, snacks, your phone, and anything else you’ll want close while hikinf, cycling or riding.

What about sightseeing days?

On days packed with sightseeing, if you’re changing hotels, your bags will come along for the ride in the vehicle.
If you’re staying in the same place, your luggage can stay safe and sound at the hotel while you go out exploring.

What Should I Pack for Jordan?

Shoes: Comfy trekking shoes are a must. Especially for Petra trails and desert hikes for example in Wadi Rum. Your feet will thank you!

Sun stuff: Don’t forget sunscreen, a cool hat, and sunglasses. The Jordan sun is strong, even in autumn and winter!

Layers: Days can be hot, nights chilly. Pack a light jacket or long sleeves to stay comfy.

Extras: Bring a reusable water bottle, a small daypack for your essentials, swimwear for the Dead Sea, and a scarf for sun or temple visits.

Pack smart, travel light, and get ready to explore like an expert! Need tips? Just ask us!

What Should I Wear in Jordan?

When in Jordan, it’s all about being comfy and respectful! For the ladies, keep your shoulders, cleavage and knees covered. Think light pants or long skirts and tops that cover your shoulders. Guys, stick to comfy pants and breathable tees.

Wear a hat or cap to keep your head cool and your face in the shade.

The weather can be hot by day and cool at night, so layering is your best friend. And don’t forget a scarf — it’s perfect for popping into mosques or just keeping the sun off your face.

Easy, breezy, and respectful — you’ve got this!

Where can I buy a simcard in Jordan?

You can buy a sim card from one of the three providers (Orange, Umniah and Zain) in the arrivals hall of Queen Alia International Airport in Amman. They all offer prepaid SIM cards with solid data plans. Easy and affordable to stay connected.

Pro Tip: Check the offers of OrangeUmniah and Zain online before you travel, to choose the right plan. Decide how many minutes and GB’s you need.

Pro Tip: WhatsApp is usually blocked or limited, so don’t be surprised if your WhatsApp calls don’t go through smoothly.

Can I travel in Jordan with my Dietary Needs?

Gluten-free? Lactose-intolerant? Vegan? Vegetarian? Allergic to that one random thing?

Arabic meals are basically a flavor-packed party with tons of little side dishes, so it’s super easy to pick and choose what works for you (and skip the stuff that doesn’t). Whether you’re dodging dairy, avoiding gluten, or just skipping meat — you won’t go hungry, promise!

Just let us know your dietary needs when booking, especially if you have serious allergies. We’re all about keeping you safe and happy.

Here’s a sneak peek at some Jordanian vegetarian and vegan deliciousness you can enjoy:

  • Crispy falafel (naturally gluten-free and vegan)
  • Creamy dips like hummus, baba ganoush & moutabal
  • Hearty beans
  • Fresh Arabic salads like fattoush and tabbouleh
  • Smoky eggplant dishes
  •

So come hungry, because we’ve got plenty of options to keep your belly happy. No matter what your food vibe is.

What if I go for a self-drive tour?

As soon as you land, one of our friendly representatives will be waiting at the airport. Handing over your car keys so you can step in your car and hit the road with confidence.

Hotel bookings, guided tours, and all your travel docs? You’ll get them straight to your phone ultimately two weeks before your tour starts.
And the best part? You’ll have a direct WhatsApp line to our team throughout your trip. We’re always just a message away if you need tips, help, or just want to share how much you’re loving Jordan.

Ready to drive your own adventure? Let’s go!

What if my group tour isn’t confirmed yet and the trip is coming up?

No worries — we work hard to keep cancellations super rare. With Salma Tours, the adventure kicks off with just 2 participants… because even the coolest journeys start as a dynamic duo!

If, by chance, your trip isn’t confirmed yet, we’ll reach out about four weeks before the start date with some cool options: pick new dates, use your credit for a different tour, or if nothing clicks, we’ve got your back with a full refund.

And hey, if your trip isn’t guaranteed yet but you still have more than four weeks to go, just hit us up! We’ll fill you in on how things look and what other plans you can make.

Easy peasy, no stress!

How can I find out if there is space available on a group trip?

As soon as you fill out our contact form, we’ll get right back to you via email with all the details! You’ll find out exactly how many people are already signed up and if there are any spots left just for you.

We want to make sure you feel totally confident before booking, so don’t hesitate to ask us anything. We’re here to help you jump on the adventure that’s perfect for you!

Will there be other solo travelers?

Absolutely! Just like most of our trips, around 30% of the group is usually made up of solo travelers. So, you’ll definitely find plenty of fellow adventurers exploring Jordan on their own. Perfect for making new friends and sharing amazing experiences!

Traveling solo doesn’t mean going it alone here. With Salma Tours, you’re always part of a friendly, welcoming crew.

Will I have a roommate? Or can I roll solo in my own room?

If you don’t book the single supplement and there’s another awesome traveler of the same gender on your tour, we’ll pair you up to share a twin room.

If you want your own space, just add the single supplement when booking. So whether you’re all about new friendships or sweet solo vibes — we’ve got you covered!
