Tour Plan
Arrival at Amman airport, meet our representative at the airport and assistance with customs and other formalities. Transfer to the hotel in Amman for dinner and overnight stay.
City tour of Amman, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, known in the Iron Age as Rabbath Ammoun and later as Philadelphia, one of the ten Greco-Roman cities of the Decapolis confederation, and more recently called the “White City” because of the white stones used in building its houses. You will visit the Roman Theater, the Citadel, and the Folklore and Archaeological Museum. Lunch in a local restaurant. Then, excursion to the Desert Castles, built by the Umayyad Caliphs of Damascus in the 7th and 8th centuries. Qasr Amra is decorated with beautiful frescoes, a rare example of Islamic painting. Qasr Al-Kharraneh is very well preserved. Qasr Azraq, dating back to the Roman era, is located in a palm oasis. Dinner and overnight in Amman.

Following the King’s Highway, visit the mosaic city of Madaba, where the Church of St. George houses the oldest known map of the Holy Land on its floor. The city itself boasts many famous mosaics in both public and private buildings. Continue to Mount Nebo, the presumed burial site of Moses, overlooking the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Here, the Franciscans built a structure to protect a Byzantine church from the 4th and 6th centuries. Lunch in a local restaurant. Then visit Shobak Castle, built in 1115 as the first of a long series of fortresses constructed east of the Jordan by King Baldwin I of Jerusalem to control the road from Egypt to Damascus. It successfully resisted many attacks before falling to Saladin’s troops in 1189. Dinner and overnight in Petra.

Full-day visit of Petra, the city carved into the rose-red rocks of the Sharah Mountains by the Nabataeans. The site was rediscovered after many centuries by the Swiss explorer Burckhardt. Walk through the Siq, a narrow and winding gorge, to reach the Treasury, the Roman Theater, Qasr Bint Pharaoun, the Temple of the Winged Lions, and other monuments. Lunch in a local restaurant. Dinner and overnight in Petra.

Just a 15-minute drive away lies Little Petra, where you will enjoy a pleasant walk through this Siq, once a hub of Nabataean trade. Continue to the Wadi Rum desert, with its spectacular moon-like landscape, where the film Lawrence of Arabia was shot. Followed by a 2-hour 4X4 Jeep tour. Lunch in a local restaurant. Dinner and overnight at a desert camp in Wadi Rum.

Along the Araba Road, visit Bethany, the site of John the Baptist’s settlement and where Jesus was baptized, as recorded in the Bible (John 1:28 and 10:40) and in Byzantine and medieval texts. Continue to the Dead Sea, sunny year-round and located in the Jordan Valley about 422 meters below sea level, one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world. Lunch at the Dead Sea Spa Hotel, then free afternoon to swim. Dinner and overnight in Amman.
