The project provides training in traditional Bedouin weaving. Allowing these women to work from their homes and support their families and communities. 10:00 AM - A Warm Welcome
Your visit begins with a warm welcome from the Lumeyo women. They will invite you to sit and enjoy a cup of traditional Jordanian tea, giving you a chance to relax and connect before the workshop begins. This is an opportunity to hear their stories and learn more about the project's mission to empower women and preserve cultural heritage.
10:15 AM - From Old to New: The Art of Upcycling
The women will demonstrate the first steps of their craft: turning secondhand clothes into beautiful, usable fabric. You'll see how they meticulously sort and prepare old sweaters and textiles and change them into fabric. Showcasing the project's commitment to recycling and sustainable design. It's a fascinating process that reveals the creativity behind their eco-friendly products.
10:30 AM - Weaving a Story
Next, you will be guided to the looms where the women bring their designs to life. They will demonstrate the ancient weaving techniques passed down through generations, showing you how each thread contributes to the final pattern. You'll get to see how intricate rugs, durable bags, and colorful pillowcases are hand-woven, transforming simple materials into works of art. For creative guests, you'll have the opportunity to choose your own fabric colors and, with the guidance of the skilled women, make your own unique key chain to take home.
10:45 AM - The Marketplace
After the demonstration, you will have time to browse the finished products. This is your chance to appreciate the unique designs and textures up close and find the perfect bag, carpet, or pillow to take home. Each purchase directly supports the women and their families, continuing the cycle of empowerment.
